Photo Friday : Cross Processing

This week's project was cross-processing which is a film process in which you shoot in slide film and then have it processed as negative film or vice versa.  Since the only film camera I have is my fisheye lomo camera, I just shot this photo of the flowers on my front stoop with my DSLR, and then worked some magic in Photoshop to get it the same over saturated effect. I mostly followed this simple tutorial.

Here's another shot of my flowers. They are the first flowers I have planted in a long time, definitely since becoming a homeowner. I do not have a green thumb at all! We'll see how long they last in the 110 degree heat we have been having!

:: Johnson Wedding Invites ::

I meant to post these on the weekend of their wedding a couple weeks ago but time totally got away from me, and now it's almost July!

I designed the invitation along with the accompanying RSVP and direction cards. I also did the programs and Thank You cards to match. Jessi told me to that she wanted something fun and modern, which was totally the theme of their wedding. (The bridesmaid dresses were super fun - bright pink on the bottom with a sparkly silver top!) I think the couple was happy how the invites turned out, and I even received on an awesome compliment from the preacher at the wedding who said he had never seen such great programs! :)

I had the invites printed and sent straight to the bride, who sent to me copy along with this sweet note on the back of the Thank You card:

Congratulations Jessi and Derek! May you live a long and happy life together!

Photo Friday : Tilt Shift

This weeks topic in Photo Op by Kevin Meredith was Tilt Shift. Since, tilt shift lens are way out of my price range at about $2,000 a pop, I decided to go for the artsy, dreamy feel that you get from them. The photo above, believe it or not, was not taken in some remote country field, but in the middle of a St. Louis suburb by some railroad tracks. I had a great time photographing the wild thistles in the glow of the evening light. The photo below was one of my favorites. It looks so lovely and dream-like for such an otherwise nasty plant. :)

I have to share one more. (I told you I have having a blast photographing these things!) This one really belongs with the silhouette project from a few weeks ago.

Photo Friday : Hanley Family

This week for my "Photo Friday" post I opted to post a sneak peak from my photo shoot with the Hanley family instead of a project from the Photo Op book.

Honestly, I was a little anxious about this shoot since the ages of the kids were so far apart, 17 years to 4 months. After meeting the family, my anxiety melted away and the shoot went great. They were all so photogenic (well, except for the little cutie, Mason, who wanted nothing to do with looking at me :) ), and they seemed to have no problem being themselves in front of the camera.

Photo Friday : Events

I skipped ahead a week in the Photo Op book because this subject fit so well. The subject was Events : Storytelling through Pictures. What could be a better event to photograph than my one of my life long friends trying the knot?!
I love this photo of her. Roxanne and Matt got married outside at the his grandparent's farm on what turned out to be a perfect day. This photo captures Roxy looking out the farmhouse window anxiously watching the guest arrive. There was so much happening that day, I'm glad she got to enjoy a few quiet moments in the mist of it all. I'm so happy that I got to be right there with her on what was surely one of the most wonderful days of her life. :)

:: Roxy's Programs ::

Last Saturday, I had the honor of watching my best friend since second grade (or maybe even before that!) get married. As her bridesmaid, I was happy to do anything I could to help her out. Being over 200 miles away, I didn't feel like I could do as much as I would have liked to. I did, however, put my design skills to good use and make her ceremony programs.

Thanks Jeanette Redshaw for the photos!
After I did the design, which was based on her invitations, I printed them 2 up on a letter size sheet of heavy cardstock. Then, I cut them apart and then began painstakingly rounding all the corners. Luckily, I had lots of help gluing all of the sticks on to turn them into fans for the outdoor ceremony. :)
My lovely cousin, Sarah, at the wedding.
Congratulations Matt and Roxanne!
